This entry was recently posted on my business blog. I own a petsitting business; on that blog I post periodically the "happenings" of some of my clients. The actions of Pepper, my miniature Dachshund, were so funny I just had to post them here, too.
I have always had Dachshunds. Many refer to them as weiner dogs or hot dogs. I had a person once call one of my Dachshunds a miniature Doberman. Can you imagine? Some may resemble Dobermans in color, but they have two totally different personalities.
My little Dachshund, Pepper, is such a stinker. She's very attached to me - she rides practically everywhere with me. Needless to say she hates the summer because she has to stay home many times due to the heat. This does not please her.
Pepper has a routine - just like we as humans have routines. Immediately after supper each night, she gets in my husband's lap and insists upon getting her back scratched and being combed. Those of us who have pets know that any season in our area is flea season, but the summer is the worse for our area, and you have to always stay one step ahead of them. After her nightly back scratch and combing Pepper stretches out on the couch with me. Anyone who is familiar with Dachshunds knows that their idea of "stretching out" and our idea of "stretching out" are two completely different ideas! They cannot stretch vertically; they insist upon stretching horizontally and leaving only inches for you to try to find comfort.
Well .... the other evening she and I were on the couch. She was on top of my legs sound asleep (she actually snores).
Suddenly her eyes pop wide open ....
she lifts up into a sitting position ....
she looks over her shoulder at her back ....
she hops down from my lap ....
walks over to my husband's chair ....
hops up in his lap ...
crawls onto his legs ....
sits in his lap ....
she gives him "the look" ....
he got her comb ....
ran it across her back twice ....
a flea was caught between the teeth of her comb ....
she turns around ....
places her front feet on his chest ....
gives him a kiss ....
she hops down from his lap ....
walks over to the couch ....
hops up in my lap ....
goes back to sleep

Dumb Animals? I think not!
