WOW! What a week! I don't want to have another one like this again any time soon. I'm only going to give a short recap.
Last Tuesday my hairdresser noticed a place on my scalp she'd found earlier had doubled in size. That area had been a little itchy for a while, but I really didn't give it a lot of thought. This area had been checked by my dermatologist previously, but she was adamant that it was much larger and made me promise to go back to the doctor. Today was my appointment, and I feel like a pincushion! By the end of my appointment not only had he "burned" the place on my scalp, he "burned" 5 places on my forehead, 4 places on the back of a leg, and 1 place on my lip. By tomorrow night I'm going to look like I was attacked by a swarm of bees! I'm accustomed to the liquid nitrogen, though; I'm prone to skin cancers and have had them removed several times over the last several years.
Last Thursday I had an appointment with my dentist for a regular checkup and cleaning. During the checkup portion he found a growth on my left lingual tonsil; he said he'd never seen anything like it before and immediately got me a referral to an ENT. Needless to say all sorts of thoughts went through my mind and fears cropped up before the ENT appointment. (There is a huge background of cancer in my family which places me in the highest risk group.) The ENT appointment was yesterday; it appears to be a polyp or some residual tissue left over from having my tonsils removed when I was 5 years old! He feels it's harmless unless it should start to grow, so I'm taking the "watch it" approach. Follow up appointments will follow in 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and then on a yearly basis.
A roller coaster week! I'm ready to settle down now and return to boring/humdrum; there's one thing I know for certain -- the season of Thanksgiving takes on an entirely different meaning for me this year. I'm sitting here tonight feeling truly blessed and thankful.
I hope it all levels out for you. My life is a rollercoaster (or so I'm told) right now, a lot of things that may come out in my blogs later this month.
