We met when we were in grade school and her family moved in to the house 5 doors down from me. If we weren't at her house, we were at mine. So many things come to mind when I think of her - George Carlin's album, Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy, Brylcreem for toothpaste, Arthur's General Store - just to name a few. Her father was transferred to South Carolina when I was in the 10th grade; the next year he took a new job in Florida. Married life took her to California; she now lives in Arizona. During all those years and moves we've stayed in touch through visits, cards, phone calls, snail mail, and email.
Two years ago she returned to Virginia for a quick weekend trip; it was the first time we'd been together in 15 years, and it was as if we'd never been apart. Last year we met in Florida to celebrate her Mom's birthday and plan to make it a yearly thing.
She's my oldest and dearest friend.
